How to avoid being low on confidence

When crisis strikes, our entire self, the physical and mental gets into resolving the problem at hand.

Most of us are not even aware, what will follow next, and then time moves on.

Leena, after getting into a new role at a new location was excited about the new beginnings in her life. She planned her goals, look forward to the office every day, and enjoyed the newness of things around her, but this did not last for too long, a month into her role, Leena found herself grappling with the same scenarios, issues, and emotions filling her, making her feel frustrated, angry and sad.

On our first coach call, I wondered why she was looking for a coach because nothing she mentioned had anything to do with the need she held deep inside her.

She opened up completely on our fifth call, on a particular question that brought back memories of a major setback, not only made Leena get into a numb state for the entire call, she cried like a child at different intervals.

Setbacks, failures come in subtle ways, ripping a person apart, and the first thing that erodes after a crisis, is confidence .

Confidence is an extension of trust we hold of ourselves and of a particular thing, connecting closely with certainty.

So how do we avoid being low on confidence ?

  1. Get to the root of what precisely was the reason of loosing confidence, was it a person, experience or a belief. Underneath fears need to be also explored.
  2. Not everything can be done all by yourself, seek perspective with help of a coach to understand the gap in the thought that has led to a low morale.
  3. Build your motivation muscle, since motivation mostly is intrinsic ,create a plan to visit it everyday through series of small steps ,which can range from positive affirmations to journal writing to reading motivational content. A constant feed to the mind may help recover the lost confidence.

How do you think Leena was able to regain her confidence?
