Jack worked very hard on a highly complex and ambiguous project ,the project lead and project sponsor were always at loggerheads, making the work more difficult and environment toxic. The team waited for the project to end ,just as a traveler caught up in heavy storm awaits the sky to clear up .

Amidst tight deadlines ,and scope changes, the only savior was the little time Jack’s could steal and spent with his aunt who raised him since he was seven years old , an old charming lady with a great sense of humor .

But one fateful day, Jack was giving a speech at a conference when he received the terrible news that his aunt had fallen and been rushed to the hospital. When he arrived, he received the terrible news that she had passed away.

Life at times can be cruel!

The next few months at office, Jack’s professional life took a new turn, there was a change of leadership in the project, the resources were shuffled and Jack was on bench.

Efforts of past three years stood irrelevant with the new resource plan , which eventually made Jack quit his job .

On quitting his job, Jack was at his normal self, he did not felt any major loss, after his aunt’s sudden demise he actually found nothing more worthy of losing.

Being the senior most, Jack’s farewell was well attended by his close friends and colleagues, his friends and network assured him of all positive things to follow . Jack never felt so lonely ,amidst a huge crowd, as much as he felt on his farewell . And despite his competence and relevant experience , it took more than three years, for Jack to find himself a job of his choice because ;

• He loss took him beyond work
• He questioned his sense of self
• He questioned his self worth on a repeated basis , which reflected in his interviews & job search
• He felt confused with the emotions and found it difficult to regulate it
• He lacked both the discipline and the motivation required for his search .

When the world says “Give up”

Hope whispers “Try it one more time”.
