Know what matters to you the most.

During my work tenure at a health care unit , I would often end up working additional hours .

As an unaware emerging leader,I always believed working hard was directly proportional to guaranteed success and therefore all my energies were invested in working hard.

A one-dimension rule and approach which kept me engaged at work, but not successful.

And therefore, after working for years I remained undervalued and overlooked for my work.

So, when success seemed a distant dream, and none of what I believed a distorted reality, I began to introspect, and during one such deep reflection phase when I would think more and work less,

I realized —While I was still able to meet my goals, was delivering the projects on time and with quality however what did not change was, the path to success in my career, which still was very far away.

It took a while for me to understand that visibility and recognition are key to find success at the professional front, also that these are the key factors in any given organization and are integral part of office politics.

Now if you are wondering what you can do at an individual level to be more visible and gain recognition, one of the simplest ways is to start is being aware of your Values.

Values = Values are things that matter to you the most.

To learn the concept and arrive at your own set of values ,click here

Knowing your values are your first step to self-awareness, through which you then learn to navigate power dynamics of office politics, but also the following.

  • Arrive at better decisions about your job, role and career ahead
  • Know what the real reason of your frustration at work is
  • Understand the key differentiator about, what is important to you and what is the demand of the job.

When I first learn of my values, I not only was able to find my blind spots, but I was also able to realize that the health care system I was working like crazy, round the clock had very low alignment with the values I held at that time.

It turns out; Neither the demand of the role was wrong nor my values.

It was a clear case of misalignment of one’s values to a role, and doing the work helped me find the needed clarity for move ahead.

Watch the workshop here, know what matters to you the most, so that you are well equipped to build the visibility and recognition you need to manage office politics.

More Power to you.
