One of the most challenging decisions I struggled with was understanding why my Career had hit a slump and the real reason behind it.
So, I did what most of us would do;
- I blamed everything that I could list and name
- I remain deeply sunk in my pity party and feel I deserve it ( the only thing in life which I own so well-“self pity” )
- I remained constantly overthinking all the time, with a weird hope that somehow, I might stumble upon some magical formula and find it.
Nothing happened for more than four years, and I remained where I was, repeating the cycle I mentioned in the above bullet points.
And then there was also a deep sense of loneliness I felt over the years, because I was an Individual contributor for most of my working life and sometimes managed a team of no more than three people.
With the rapid change in office workspace cultures and the emergence of new roles with the advancement of technology. Individual contributors and those managing small teams are more prone to stalled career growth.
Mid-career slumps are real and have a profound impact. Do not commit the same errors I did; instead, avoid waiting for years, struggling to find a way out.
