You feel depleted even after rest because the definition of rest you have with you is not what you think it is.
A good night’s sleep can rest your body, but it does not automatically solve the problems that sit in the emotional part of your mind.
And when you constantly evade, ignore, and procrastinate, depriving them of the attention they need, they gnaw at you in your silent moments, which is exactly why you keep your life full of noise and distraction, so those silent moments never find you.
However, the power of unacknowledged emotions is like a resilient wild Lantana camara flower; the more you trim, the denser the bush grows, almost invasive to everything around.
So,
If you really want to understand the reason for your depleted energy even after rest, you need to do the following;
Start by answering this question
What is rest according to you?
Is it able to find time with family or friends often, watching your favourite Netflix series or an additional hour of sleep over the weekend?
Based on what you came up with, take that response and now ask yourself:
How much are you able to rest (as per your definition)? You can choose only ONE of the 3 options given below.
To a large extent.
Not Enough.
Not at all.
The option you choose now helps you understand the extent to which you can rest.
Knowing the extent to which you are able to rest will now take you on a deep-dive session where you find the reason behind whatever option you have chosen and the why behind it.
If you had chosen –To a large extent, which is a positive answer, it means you are able to do whatever rest definition you have in your life,
If you had chosen – Not Enough, which is the messy middle, it means you are caught up in the balancing act.
If you had chosen “Not at all,” it means you are operating from the other extreme of the spectrum and are in immediate need of support, for you have no space for rest in your life.
Being aware of the extent to which Rest is playing out in your life is just the start of your journey, and if you happen to fall in the category of people with Not at all as your option chosen, you might need an additional layer of reflection, where you need to very specifically pen down the very reason, event, and the person (relation) responsible for no rest in your life.
After a detailed description of it, you now need to move ahead to write your 5 whys; you may find some of your whys stemming from the detailed description itself.
For those who have chosen options 1 & 2, you can skip the additional step and move directly ahead to write 5 whys for feeling depleted even after rest.
These 5 whys hold the answer that you are hiding from yourself and need your immediate attention.
What is Rest?
Our definition of Rest can vary, but Rest, in a real sense, is rest for both body and mind, aligned with your deepest desires and a purpose that includes a plan you can put into action.
If you want to build a plan or need support to navigate those difficult emotions, you are hiding from yourself. I’m all ears and just a click away.
Remember, continuing to hide those buried emotions doesn’t make them disappear like the Lantana; they just grow denser.
