December is a month of closures, whether it is the academic year, financial year, or calendar year. Everyone knows and associates it as the last month before we start again.
Besides the season, the vibe this month carries is that of a holiday season, one of relaxation.
While for a majority it could be a time of festive joy and holidays, for some of us, especially those for whom this year may not have turned out to be so remarkable, it is highly likely to feel a bit isolated, lonely, grumpy, with a trigger of complex emotions enveloping our mind.
It is very likely you are hijacked in the trap of comparison syndrome. (a disease with no cure, grown tenfold since the start of social media).
& The best way to deal with it when you find yourself getting dragged into it is,
Pause,
Take a deep breath, and remember this: Comparison is always between equal variables, and there is no one else like you —not even your twin siblings, if you have any!
You are unique with your own individual experiences, and just like your fingerprints, you do not share them with anyone.
And if you still want to compare, then
Compare your present “You” with the Past “You”
Whatever you find or come up with, be open and accepting of it.
&
If you have been practising the acceptance tool and strategies we learned throughout November,
You may find it easier to manage times when our part of the world is not as filled with excitement and activities as others.
The good news is, we can create our own circle of happiness and joy by indulging in what gives us that.
It can be enjoying a warm cup of tea in the early morning, snuggling under a blanket on a cold day, and sleeping in an extra hour with no care in the world!
So go ahead and create your circle of joy.
Spoil yourself silly!
Laugh it all out till you cry.
And
Rejoice in what you have.
Be content with what you have; rejoice in the way things are. When you realize there is nothing lacking, the whole world belongs to you.” — Lao Tzu
With gratitude.
Warmly,
